Energiewende is Germany’s energy transition to a nuclear-free, low carbon emitting economy. It aims to battle with greenhouse gas emissions along with providing energy security and economic prosperity all at the same time, which is no easy task. Europe’s most populous, biggest economy wants to become almost climate-neutral by mid-century.


So far the main focus has been on the electricity production sector, with huge financial support going into development of renewable sources like solar and wind.
